This past week, we were able to take a short trip to the mountains. You truly never know what you are going to get on a trip with kids – especially teenagers. Believe me they have their moments! Eye-rolling has become an artform at my house lately.
But I was a bit surprised when both Avery and Brooke wanted to go hiking for a day while in the mountains. Yes, rugged, trek through the mud, over rocks and roots, hiking. We hiked to several spots along a river and waterfalls. No cell service to be seen. Maybe it was about looking cute in their outfits?
Whatever it was, I am thankful that they were willing to do this. Especially when most of our lives revolve around having wifi and using some type of device! We only have a few more months before Avery leaves for college and these rare moments of simply being together are treasured more by me than ever before. Its beginning to get real and sometimes I have little panic attacks thinking about her being away next year.
So today, Avery and Brooke are my favorites for being willing to step away from technology and civilization long enough to truly enjoy each other and nature.
