Simple Things…..

Who remembers these days?  When a simple cardboard box was an adventure?  When all you needed was your imagination to create new worlds and have a great time?  Having our third child “late in life” has reintroduced me to that kind of magic again.

Of course she is a digital native, so pulling her away from a screen must be done.  However, when we “unplug” and play with simple things, or take a walk, that’s when we really have a good time together.  Playing with dolls/barbies, reading books, drawing, blowing bubbles, outdoor chalk – these are the things she will remember later in life.  She will not remember me sitting down and watching shows with her, or playing on the iPad.  She will remember the times when I truly focused on her.

In keeping with this theme, I think that for Christmas we should give Kate a series of large boxes – like refrigerator boxes, dishwasher boxes, etc…. – and see what she can create with them.  Hours of fun!  Plus there is the added bonus that after a few weeks of play, we can throw the boxes away and clean out our space again : )

So today, Kate is my favorite for reminding me that its the simple things that really matter in life.

Daily tally:

Avery +2/-2, Brooke +7/0,  Kate +15/-3, Me +1/-4, My Husband +3/0, New house +2/-1,   Jack(d0g) +0/-1

  1. The joys of childhood. It was such a simple time…easy…care free… I can’t even remember what that was like…to be carefree, that is… Great photos. I can’t wait until my daughter is that age and we can build her a clubhouse. So cute!

  2. I remember the wonders of a large box well .One for a new fridge became a stage coach when my kids were small. My daughter and I “drove” the coach and my son was the “bandit” who was always robbing us! Great times. Thanks for reminding me!
