Lucky Charms and Best Friends

Some friends are acquaintances.  Some are friends for a period of time in your life.  Then you have friends who have done such wonderful acts of kindness and love for you, that you know you will always be friends.  No time and distance will ever matter.

I am lucky enough to have some of these friends in my life.

I have always loved the cereal Lucky Charms.  Well let me clarify – I have always loved the marshmellows in the cereal.  The cereal itself should be fed to dogs in my opinion.  The only reason to buy the cereal in the first place if for the marshmellows.  Seriously, do you know anyone who says they like the cereal part better than the marshmellows?  If they do, then break up with them as a friend because they are a liar.  Nobody likes the cereal better.  Who do they think they are fooling?

When I was a sophomore in college, we had a great group of 4 friends that lived beside each other in a dorm.  Although we are all very diverse, we became fast friends and have been in weddings and seen each other through many births – even living great distances apart.

The first inkling that two of these friends would be with me forever is when they gave me Lucky Charms.  We all didn’t have much money for Christmas gifts, so we got creative for gifts.  First, these two friends, Nancy and Whitney, were attentive enough to notice that I loved Lucky Charms and bought two boxes of them for me for Christmas.  Secondly, they didn’t just give me the boxes of Lucky Charms.  These friends went through 2 boxes of Lucky Charms and separated the marshmellows from the cereal and just gave me a container of the marshmallows.  At this point in time I knew.  These people LOVE ME!!!  They are keepers!!  I don’t think my husband would even know enough to separate the marshmallows from the cereal for me.

This still remains one of the most cherished gifts I have received.  Its not about the amount of money or grandeur of the gift.  Its about friends knowing you well enough and paying attention, that they knew what would bring joy.  Then taking all that time to go through cereal boxes to give me only the part I loved.

I hope you all have “marshmallow” friends like I do.  Nancy and Whit will always be my friends.  They sealed the deal with two boxes of Lucky Charms. : )

Daily tally:

Avery +1/-1, Brooke +3/0,  Kate +5/-2, Me +1/-2, My Husband +1/0, Nancy & Whitney +1/0

In response to your post, I loved Lucky Charms as a child. Thanks for bringing back good memories of how much I loved the marshmallows.
