We are finally building our dream house!! It has been a long, long , LONG time coming. Sometimes, I can’t even believe its really happening. (If you want to follow along with the house progress, please visit/follow my house blog – really just a photo blog of the progress – at https://bloghousesite.wordpress.com/)
My husband is a Civil Engineer and he had been VERY invested in this project. For me, I just want the house to be done and move in. There are a few rooms – like kitchen, laundry room, and pantry – that are important to me, but other than that, I really don’t care. I just want it done!! (Have I mentioned that we sold our house and have been living out of boxes in a rental house for almost two years – thus the attitude of “just wanting it done.”)
My husband, on the other hand, has re-engineered almost every space in the house – LITERALLY! It has been an exercise in patience for me to say the least. The original house was a two story house with 4 bedrooms. Then he started his tweaking. He pulled out the garages – originally a two car garage – by two feet, which added space to the whole house by two feet. He enlarged the front porch so it is 8 1/2 feet wide (this will be nice to have a roomy porch to overlook the lake). He added a FULL BASEMENT! Yep, original house didn’t have a basement. In the basement, he added a one car garage and a possible media room. We also now have a concrete walled “bunker” in the basement for tornado threats.
Then he added another two-car garage to the first floor of the house. Above that garage is his “man cave.” The picture above shows him looking out what will be the window of his “man cave” at the lake at sunset.
We were so excited yesterday that we have a 2nd floor on the house, we (me, my husband and middle daughter) scaled a rickety ladder two floors up to the 2nd floor – we don’t have stairs built to that floor yet.
So today, my husband is my favorite. Its nice to see all his hard work come to fruition and to see him happy!
