Grocery Helper

I have the cutest grocery helper ever!  I know that I am completely biased, but this picture is one of my favorites – EVER!  Its also misleading…….  The photo makes it look like it a great, fun adventure to shop with my two year old, Tate.  This could not be further from the truth!!  Its NOT FUN!!!

Most times I take her to the grocery store with me I am almost in tears by the time we leave.  It is like wrestling a full-grown orangutan while trying to actually get through the grocery list.  She will not sit in the cart – she either wants to be held (all 35 pounds of her) or to walk/run on her own.  When I try to put her in the cart, she stands up and has many times almost fallen out of the cart.  Once she flipped backwards into the larger part of the cart.  Only her ego was truly hurt.

When I let her down, she runs.  I mean she FULL OUT SPRINTS through the store.  One time after a long day of work, I had to run by the grocery store with her.  I was very tired and she was supposed to walk with me.  She took off running so I had no other option than to chase her.  After running 6 aisles in heels and dress clothes, I finally caught up with her.  Not quite the exercise I had planned for the evening!

On the day that this photo was taken, she was staying with me to a certain extent with her mini grocery cart.  However, she kept trying to eat the food in her cart!  That was very entertaining!  I can’t remember how many times I had to tell her not to open the cupcakes.  We also put a polish sausage in her cart, which she kept trying to bite through the plastic!  Funny kid!

Now I avoid shopping with her like the plague!   I don’t care if we have no milk in the house – put water on your cereal or eat it dry!  I am not taking that baby to the store.  I even wait til 9 or 10 at night when she is asleep and the big girls can stay with her to go to the store.  I can get done so much faster!  It may be years before I take her back to the store!  As I write this, we have nothing to drink in the house – no milk, juice, soda.  Our only option is water.  I will drink water rather than take her to the store.  That’s sad right??

Please tell me what others are doing to get through the store with a toddler.  I am open to suggestions!!!

Despite her abundant cuteness, Tate is my least favorite today due to grocery store behavior.

Daily tally:

Aubrie 1/-4         Bella 3/-1      Tate 7/-7     Jack 1/-2    Husband 3/-1     Father 1/0
